What Is the Office of The Inspector General?

The Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services (OIG) oversees Federal healthcare programs including Medicare and Medi-Cal. The OIG may seek to exclude a healthcare provider from federal healthcare programs for several reasons such as a healthcare fraud or controlled substance conviction or making a false statement.

What if You Get Excluded?

The consequences of an OIG exclusion are vast and can be devastating for a healthcare provider. Such consequences include the inability to receive payments from federal healthcare programs, loss of hospital privileges, inability to work for other providers who receive funds from federal healthcare programs, and disciplinary action against a professional license.
